Compress and download

The result is a JPG, which nearly every upload form accepts; transparent areas become white. The tool lowers the quality first and only shrinks the picture's dimensions if the target can't be reached otherwise. It does not crop, so check the photo requirements of the form you are filling in (size in pixels, background, face position).

How to compress an image to 50KB or 100KB

  1. Choose an image: click the box or drag a photo in.
  2. Type the maximum size in KB, or tap a preset such as 50 KB or 100 KB.
  3. Click Compress image, check the size shown, and download the JPG.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce an image to 50KB or 100KB?

Choose your photo, enter 50 or 100 as the maximum size in KB, and click Compress image. The tool finds the highest picture quality that still fits under your limit.

Will it always reach my target size?

Almost always. It lowers the JPG quality first and, only if that is not enough, makes the picture a little smaller. For a very small target on a large photo the image will look softer. If so, raise the limit slightly.

What format is the result?

A JPG, which nearly every upload form accepts. Transparent areas become white.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The compression happens in your browser, so the photo stays on your device.

What if my image is already under the limit?

Then you can use it as it is. The tool tells you and lets you download the original unchanged.

Can I use this for passport photos or ID uploads?

It reduces the file size only. It does not crop or check the form's other rules, so confirm the size in pixels, background and face position the form asks for. To change the width, use the Image Converter.
